Popov Engineers, Inc. believes the challenges inherent in the proper selection and specification of the Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical (MPE) Systems in hospitality projects offer unique opportunities for engineers and designers. Particularly since the adequacy of the MPE Systems in these projects is usually viewed as a function of individual user satisfaction stemming from comfort and control capabilities.

Equally challenging are issues related to initial costs, return on investment, installation, maintenance and the flexibility offered in the monitoring and control of the MPE systems. Since some of these facilities usually involve “24/7” operations, they are also particularity sensitive to systems' efficiency and energy conserving strategies.

Public spaces within these facilities also have unique challenges in that they often require special food preparation and servicing areas with extraordinary lighting requirements and ventilation capacities and intense support facilities to serve their intended functions.

Finally, due to the electronic connectivity expected in today’s living environments and the various types of occupancies involved, other systems demanding special attention in these projects will include data, telecommunications, security, life safety and fire protection systems.
